Call to Action: Sign-On Letter to Congress and the Administration

FSAE is working with ASAE and other states to petition Congress and President Trump to include professional and trade associations in phase 4 of the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, and we need your help.

ASAE has authored sign-on letters to Congress and the Trump Administration and we ask your organization to add its name by tomorrow, Thursday, April 2, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern.

While we are disappointed associations were not included in the Small Business Administration (SBA) loan expansion (CARES Act; Section 1102), it is our reading that associations were initially included until a new version of the CARES Act on Sunday, March 22 changed the definition to Section 501(c)(3) nonprofits only. And, although statutory language for the SBA Emergency Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program (CARES Act; Section 1110) is unclear in exactly how it treats associations, the SBA is currently accepting Section 501(c)(6) applications for EIDL loans. Read ASAE’s one-pager for more updates on the CARES Act.

In the sign-on letter linked above, our community calls on Congress to:

  1. Provide $25 billion in immediate capital assistance to trade and professional associations;
  2. Include 501(c)(6) organizations in the Paycheck Protection Program or similar Small Business Administration loan expansions; and
  3. Create a pandemic risk insurance program with a federal backstop for prospective insurance claims related to a pandemic or epidemic.

Thank you for your continued advocacy and support – particularly during this trying time. For more information, visit ASAE’s coronavirus advocacy page. Email [email protected] for questions or assistance.

Thank you for your assistance in helping us pass this important legislation.
