Luncheon Keynote: Connecting for Maximum Productivity

Ken HartleySpeaker: Ken Hartley

The number one thing that holds organizations back is a lack of communication. Everyone is talking, but very few people actually connect. Drawing from his Amazon best-selling book, Discover Your Team’s Potential, using the DISC model of human behavior, as well as some jaw-dropping illusions, Ken will show you how to understand yourself in a way you never have before. But more importantly, he will show you how to understand the people around you every day and how to connect with them in a meaningful way.

Attendees will learn:

  • How and why they are wired the way they are.
  • The four temperaments and how they think and operate.
  • How to speak the temperamental languages of others in order to connect with them.

3 Scoops and a Mission Statement

Speaker: Pete Zimek, CAE

From their funky, chunky ice cream flavors to their social impact, the iconic Ben & Jerry’s ice cream brand has reimagined how organizations can make an impact on their communities. Led by Pete Zimek, CAE, a former Ben & Jerry’s franchisee turned association professional, this interactive session will help to identify strategies to advance your association’s mission while increasing economic resiliency.

Join us as we translate Ben & Jerry’s unique three-part mission statement into one cohesive strategy associations can adopt.

  • Construct a compelling origin story that expresses their organization’s “why” to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Translate an iconic ice cream brand’s three-part mission into actionable strategies for serving association members while building economic resiliency for the organization.
  • Re-frame their individual approach to non-profit association management, focusing more on each member’s experience than on the member benefits they provide.

Creating Value Propositions – A Hands-On Experience

Speaker: Tara Liaschenko, CMM

Value Propositions showcase the advantages an association provides and demonstrate why becoming a part of the organization can lead members to find solutions they need. Facilitator Tara Liaschenko will give participants a brief overview of what value propositions are – and what they’re not – as well as how to create one for your organization. Attendees will participate in creating a value proposition for FSAE, while gaining firsthand experience of the methodology.

Ethics for Association Planners: Freebies, Perks and Points, Oh My!

Speaker: Cathi Lundgren, CAE, CMP

How big of a ‘gift’ is too big? Do you use points obtained from hotel contracts for personal use? Is it okay to accept a room upgrade? Do you pit service vendors against each other to obtain a better bid? Do you have to turn down that spa visit? Does your employer or membership organization have a code of conduct?

As with any industry, association management and event planning have their own set of sticky ethical issues to deal with, and you’re eventually going to be faced with a moral dilemma (or two, or three…) over the course of your career. How you deal with them will not only define you as a professional, but as a person. Cathi Lundgren, CAE will discuss the role ethics plays in our profession and how to deal with it morally. Bring your thoughts, comments and questions for what will be a lively discussion on professional ethics and the future of our profession.
